Been a very busy few weeks for me! With the start of school brings the start of dance and cheer squads and competitions. I’ve already tripled my custom music volume over last year and it’s not slowing down yet… I love it!

I’ve also been working on a tradeshow execution for a client in San Diego. We went out last week and I ran lights and sound for that production for the week. It was a great experience and I learned a ton about lighting effects in the process! It’s always nice to open the road cases and say hello to my sound equipment too. :)

Now it’s back in the studio with Michael Scott for some more work on the record. I promise I’ll post clips for you as soon as they are ready for you to listen. It’s been slow going with all the other work I’ve had but it’s great to not have a timeline for once! We’re able to work when we feel creative and break when we’re not…

Talk soon!

It’s finally available on the web! I spent the weekend finishing up my demo reel and getting it uploaded to the multitude of sites to make sharing and streaming possible. It’s available on this site under my best work, but I’ve also embedded it in this post for you!

Word of the Week: Busy!

Posted on Jun. 03, 2010 under Good Stories

…But it’s better than the alternative.

Wow! When it rains it pours! I had planned to get a birthday CD knocked out last weekend… six songs, half of which I already know and don’t have to learn. Shouldn’t take too long, right? Wrong.

I started the weekend by learning to play a few songs on guitar. Then I realized that they needed more than just one guitar. Enter the 12-string. After writing some parts on that to brighten the sound, I decided to use Michael Scott’s bass to add bottom end. Then I needed drums to complete the sound, which I built entirely by hand using samples from Sony ACID. It took forever (yes, literally), but it sounds great!

So needless to say I didn’t get the CD completed. That’s ok – I have plenty of time. And paying jobs come first: I took on some new dance mixes for a couple of my nice clients. I love mixing music and I even get to create new sounds since I’ve been learning/practicing some heavy MIDI integration into my work. Pair those 6 mixes (all due in June) with a live sound gig next weekend for Tyson at the Arkansas Poultry Festival, and I’ve got a busy few weeks ahead of me!

Here’s a shot of the portable iso booth I built in the guest room for vocal and acoustic guitar recording. I used foam padding and 3/4″ PVC pipe. It sounds surprisingly good for the inexpensive construction! I’ll let you hear for yourself in the next few weeks as I complete my birthday CD project…

I guess my demo reel is getting pushed back again. I’m happy though. As long as I’m getting the chance to be creative with my sound design… :)
